J-K govt sanctions ex-gratia relief for landslide victims

The Jammu and Kahsmir government has sanctioned ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of those killed in a landslide in Kishtwar district of Jammu region.

Three women were killed and five children of a nomadic tribe were injured yesterday when a landslide hit their tent.

The Bakarwal families from Pathernaki, Kishtwar got trapped after their tents came under a landslide at Shasho Pader, a forest area of Kishtwar district.

The deceased were identified as Zeenam, Maryam and Zareena.

Minister for disaster management, relief and rehabilitation and floriculture Javaid Mustafa Mir directed the deputy commissioner of Kishtwar district to ensure that ex-gratia relief is disbursed to their families immediately.

 

He asked the district administration to assess the loss of their livestock and provide relief, in accordance with the NDRF/SDRF norms, without any delay.
