"Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir State Mission Authority for empowering women socially, economically and educationally," Secretary to Government, General Administration Department, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad said.
The Secretary, who issued an order to this effect, said a 17-member monitoring panel headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had been constituted to supervise the implementation of women-centric schemes and programmes in the state.
The objectives of the Authority were access to health, drinking water, sanitation and hygiene facilities by women and girls in schools from primary to class XII and higher and professional education for them.
Skill Development, micro credit, vocational training, entrepreneurship, Self Help Group (SHG) Development, gender sensitisation and dissemination of information, prevention of crime against women and taking steps for a safe environment for women would also be taken up, Ahmed said.
The authority would secure convergence of schemes of different ministries and departments of state and central governments, monitor and review gender budgeting by them and effective implementation of various social laws concerning women, he said.
