"The work on 343 Panchayat Ghars taken up across the Jammu division would be completed by the end of the current financial year", Minister for Rural Development, Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar said while addressing a review meeting of Rural Development Department (RDD) here.
The meeting was informed that the department has spent a whopping Rs 309 crore under MGNREGA in the region till October this year.
Reviewing the physical and financial achievements registered in Jammu region under RD sector, Sagar asked the officers to ensure that the work on Panchayat Ghars was completed within the stipulated time to provide requisite infrastructural support to the Panchayti Raj Institutions (PRIs).
The Minister said that the government was committed to establish a vibrant Panchayati Raj System (PRS) and in this regard and the Panchayat representatives have already been empowered with supervisory powers of 14 vital departments.
