The preliminary report for the projects, which are being set up under the Integrated Watershed Development Management Programme, have been prepared and sent to the Centre for approval, an official spokesman said.

The detailed project reports for the sanctioned projects are also being prepared so that they can be executed within a given time-frame, he said.

In order to gear up the pace of work on the implementation of watershed projects in the state, a high-level meeting of project managers was held at Directorate of Rural Development here today.

The Centre has launched an ambitious project (IWMP) for the development of watersheds to harvest the rain water and utilise the same for upliftment in the socio-economic status of the poor people in rain fed areas, he said.

The state gets a good amount of rainfall, about 80 per cent of which is received during the two months of rainy season, so the crux of the programme involves using that rain water.
