"State government was taking concerted measures for the preservation and conservation of heritage sites," J-K minister for Health and Family welfare, Sham Lal Sharma said.
J-K was known for its scenic splendour and rich cultural heritage across the world and there were lot of unexplored areas which need to be projected at national and international levels, he said.
The minister was talking to reporters after laying foundation stone for developing facilities around historical site of Sumah in Akhnoor border belt of Jammu.
The Union government funded project under Border Area Tourism Development Programme is being executed by Tourism Department involving an estimated cost of about Rs 5 crore, he said.
Sumah is an ancient holy place which is visited by a large number of devotees on various religious occasions.
The minister said the government has declared all monuments as state projected heritage sites, adding that a whooping amount is being spend on the restoration of these heritage areas of the state.
During last several years, restoration work of several heritage sites which includes famous forts and historical site like Akhnoor and Reasi fort, Jio-Potaghat, Shiv Khori shrine, Sudhmahadev, Mansar and Bhaderwah have been taken up, of which the work of some these historical sites have been completed and rest are near completion, the minister said.
