"As per revenue record, 988 water bodies were existing in the Samba district and there is an urgent need to renovate and rejuvenate them," state Chief Secretary Madhav Lal said after visiting several villages in Samba district.
During the visit, Lal inspected works regarding conservation and development of community ponds, apart from inspecting the work of an under-construction minor check dam in Papad Avtara village.
Noting that traditional water bodies are perennial source to meet water requirement, Lal said as many as 433 water bodies have already been restored by the government and work on other 256 is in progress under the MGNREGA scheme.
He also stressed for use of water-efficient agricultural techniques by farmers like alternate cropping and drip and sprinkler irrigation, apart from alternative practices like horticulture and fisheries.
Lal also asked farmers to adopt poly-green house technology and cultivation of cash crops to give boost to their yield.
