J-K govt to restore Mughal Gardens

The 'Hamam' which was constructed by the Mughals during the 17th century will be fully restored at the Shalimar Garden, giving an aesthetic look to the garden, Minister for Floriculture Sham Lal Sharma said.

Sharma, during a visit to the Gardens yesterday, said the state-of-the-art 'Hamam' restoration project will cost Rs 52 lakhs and attract tourists from across the globe.

"The Government will restore the original glory of all the Mughal gardens situated in the Valley. The Department of Floriculture has already undertaken the restoration work of three Mughal gardens -- Shalimar, Nishat and Cheshmashahi-
