J-K govt welcomes Centre's assistance for quake affected areas

Jammu and Kashmir Government today welcomed the Centre's decision to sanction 10,000 tents for earthquake-affected areas of erstwhile Doda district.

The numbers will be in addition to the 1,000 tents and 2,000 blankets sent by Red Cross Society of India, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce and Home, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, said here while thanking the Centre.

Kichloo on the instructions of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, is stationed at Kishtwar for the last three days to oversee the rescue and relief operations.

There has been extensive damage to thousands of residential houses and government infrastructure in Kishtwar district due to earthquake that struck erstwhile Doda district on May 1.
 

According to preliminary damage report submitted by district administration to the divisional commissioner, nearly 3,500 tents and 15,000 blankets are immediately required for providing succor to the affected families.

Nearly Rs 5 crore is urgently required under National Calamity Relief Fund and State Disaster Relief Fund for compensating loss suffered to private property, while another Rs 1.50 crore is required for restoring damage suffered by government infrastructure due to the tremor.
