Jammu and Kashmir government today said that there are 26,850 industrial units registered in the state, out of which 186 have been declared "sick".
In a written reply to the question of BJP member Rajesh Gupta in Legislative Assembly today, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga said that 26,850 industrial units are registered in the state.
"The number has increased from 20,237 units in 2008 and 16,091 units in 2000," he said, adding that there are 186 sick units.

J&K government has set up a state level committee for revival of such industrial units in the state, he said, adding that incentives will be given to such units which are potentially viable, where the promoters undertake to restart their business and where the track record of promoters is not adverse.
"In 2013, the state government constituted a sub-committee to conduct fresh survey and ascertain the present viability of all the sick units," he said.
The committee has inspected the units and found 104 potentially viable ones out of 184 sick units in Kashmir division and 3 out of 98 units in the Jammu region.
The committee further cleared cases of 85 sick units for revival in the state, he said.
Referring to the problems faced by the industry in terms of poor growth, he said adverse climatic conditions, disadvantageous geographical locations from main land, deficiency in infrastructure, shortage of industrial estates, difficulty in flow of credit from banks are some of the reasons for poor growth of industrial sector in J&K.
