The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today asked the state government and crime branch to submit status reports on the action taken in the spurious drug scam so far.

A division bench of the High Court asked the Advocate General M I Qadri to furnish a status report on the action taken by the government in the spurious drug scam case by the next date of hearing on May 23.

The court also asked the IGP Crime to file a similar report on the status of investigations into the case.

The bench is hearing a public interest litigation (PIL), filed by the Doctors Association of Kashmir, who are seeking registering of criminal case against the then Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma and members of the purchase committee for allegedly procuring fake drugs for government hospitals in the state.

The supply of fake drugs case came to light when random laboratory analysis of an anti-biotic drug showed that there was no trace of Amoxycillin in it against the 500 mg claiming by the manufacturer.
