A Division Bench of the High Court, comprising Justices M Yaqoob Mir and Hasnain Masoodi, directed the Oil companies to make available both subsidised and unsubsidised gas cylinders to the consumers as per the requirements.

The bench, which took suo-moto cognizance of the LPG crisis in the state earlier this week, also directed for constitution of a committee headed by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir for looking into the need of increasing the number of gas distribution outlets and dealerships.

The court directed that a task force be formed which will monitor the availability of gas cylinders in the state.

The oil companies were directed to accept the applications for verification of documents of gas connections through internet in order to make the process easier for the consumers.

The Division Bench on Wednesday initiated suo-moto proceedings, which were later converted into a Public Interest Litigation, following media reports of scarcity of LPG and the cumbersome process of filling the verification forms.
