Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Chowdhary Lal Singh today appealed to people to donate blood, saying the act will save numerous lives.

Singh, who inaugurated a blood donation camp in Kathua district today by donating his blood, said, "People must volunteer themselves and come forward to donate blood so as to save numerous lives."

While speaking about the reforms taken by the government for providing quality healthcare facilities to the people of the state, Singh said that health and medical education sectors were the priority sectors of the government.

"The Central and state governments have provided liberal funding under NHM and other programmes," he said.

He said the government is going to launch new scheme in the state which would provide free treatment to the children.

New sub-health centers in far-off areas of the state would also be established, for which the Centre has already given its nod to the state government, he said.

To curb the menace of female foeticide, the minister said the situation was really alarming and society must cooperate in dealing with this serious issue.

"Only government efforts are not adequate to tackle this social issue, but entire society is responsible for the situation and all right-thinking people including social and religious organizations have to put their efforts to keep a check on this menace," he asserted.

He said the government has initiated several steps to upgrade the overall health scenario in the state and the change is visible on ground.

Singh appealed to the doctors and para-medics to put in their best efforts to maintain the distinguished position achieved by the state healthcare system.

The present regime has made tremendous progress in various sectors across the state whether it is health, education, horticulture, tourism, power and PHE and R&B for welfare and uplift of socio-economic status of people, he said.
