J-K minister for inculcating moral values among students

To inspire younger generation towards patriotism and selfless service to the nation it is important to introduce moral education in schools, Jammu and Kashmir minister Sham Lal Sharma said today.

Moral education should be mandatory in schools, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control said.

"There is a need for introduction and making mandatory of moral education subject from the elementary level in all educational institutions to enrich moral ethics and inspire the younger generation towards the patriotism and selfless service to the nation after completing their education," he said in an annual day function of a school in Akhnoor belt.
 

The Minister said that during the past two decades moral values have degraded in the society mainly due to contemporary universal educational trends and students and teachers are strictly following the competitive trends.

Reminding the teachers and parents their role in nurturing the character of the students, the Minister said that they must work together to build the future of the children so that they can sustain make a respectable place in the society.

Lauding the role of private sector for their efforts to universalise education, he said that private institutions are doing commendable work in providing quality education, especially in the rural and sub-urban.
