J-K: Minister warns against improper use of development funds

"Stern action will be taken against those officers who fail to utilise funds (earmarked for developmental work) properly and timely...Government distributes the funds on various schemes with the aim to benefit the people at the earliest," Wani said after a review meeting here yesterday.

Wani, who is also vice-chairman of District Development Board of Kupwara, said the government is committed to keep an eye on developmental activities in the border districts to bring them at par with other districts.

The minister pressed for judicious use of the funds for timely completion of the development projects.

Giving an account of government's achievements, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Sarmad Hafeez said 66 road projects have been undertaken in Kupwara under PMGSY, of which 25 projects were completed during last fiscal and work on other 22 will be over by this fiscal.

 

He said 64.25 km of roads have been black-topped in the district so far.

Around 28 storage tanks are being constructed, while 45.50 km length of 'khuls' are being improved and upgraded.

As many as 100 habitations have been electrified against the target of 245 households under the RGGVY programme.

Hafeez said 271 primary school buildings, 17 middle school buildings, 1224 additional classrooms and 704 separate toilets for girls are being constructed under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.

As many as 6.97 lakh were given employment under MGNREGA scheme and 1660 works have been completed so far.

Nearly 350 youth were provided financial assistance under IAY for construction of dwelling units and 319 others for upgradation of their houses so far, he said.

For the first time, the meeting was held outside Kupwara district headquarters at the picturesque Chandigam Tourist resort in Sogam area of Lolab, some 110 kms from here.
