Farooq Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Sangrampora, was arrested by a police party during vehicle checking at Zangam near Pattan, 27 kms from here, a police spokesman said.
He said Ganie was travelling from Awantipora in south Kashmir to his home in Sopore town in a private car when he was intercepted by police.
"A large quantity of liquor and charas was recovered from the vehicle during checking," the spokesman said adding that the consignment was brought by the peddler from Awantipora and was being smuggled to Sopore town for distribution among youngsters.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson said police also arrested a burglar and recovered several stolen electronic items including mobile phones from him.
Naseer Ahmad Bhat alias "Nus", a resident of Kastori Kocha Gojree Mohalla Pattan, was arrested during investigation of a case related to burglary in a shop in Pattan early this month.
"Bhat was called to the police station and during questioning admitted to have committed the burglary," he said adding that stolen electronic goods including over a dozen mobile phones were recovered from him.
