J-K police to introduce new sports policy

Jammu and Kashmir police is planning to implement an ambitious project to promote sports in the organisation and cultivate talent in various disciplines.

"The state police is all set to introduce new policy which aims to promote sports in the organisation," Director General of J-K Police K Rajendra said here today.

"The state police has been focusing on promoting sports culture within and outside the organisation and has cultivated talent in various disciplines," he said.

Rajendra said the salient features of new policy includes enhancing sports infrastructure, introduction of special training courses, recruitment of outstanding sports persons and coaches in different ranks.
 

"The new policy focuses on establishing hi-tech gyms with latest machinery and physiotherapy centers, multipurpose halls with modern dimensions to promote indoor games like boxing, basketball, kabbady, wushu and judo, indoor and outdoor firing ranges at Srinagar and Jammu," he said.

Rajendra who held a meeting today to discuss the new sports policy, said "our sports personnel have excelled at national and international levels. Their performance in sports arena has made the organisation proud".

During the meeting, various issues related to the promotion of sports in the police force including budget, infrastructure requirements, play grounds, incentives for outstanding sportsmen and recruitment of sports person under SRO-349 were also discussed.
