J&K Police to purchase 1,000 bullet proof jackets, helmets

J&K police will purchase 1,000 bullet proof jackets and helmets to protect the forces, after the recent CAG reports that pulled up the state for poor police infrastructure.

"We have floated e-tenders to purchase 1,000 bullet proof jackets and helmets to arm cops with protections. The tenders have been from original manufacturers or their authorized dealers for the supply of these security items," Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Provision and Transport, police headquarters said.

As per the tender notice, the state police has asked for supply of 500 bullets proof jackets and 500 bullet proof helmets.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India in its latest report has rapped Jammu and Kashmir government for poor police infrastructure and pulled government for failure to provide them security vests to the policemen.
 

"In eight test-checked districts, life saving equipment viz, body protectors and bullet proof vests were not available with 64 police stations wherein 2,865 police personnel remained posted," CAG for the years ended 31st March 2014, stated in its reports.
