J-K tax revenue rises by Rs 2,327 cr in 2016-17

Tax revenue of Jammu and Kashmir rose to Rs 21,380 crore in 2016-17 against Rs 19,053 crore in the previous year, state Finance minister Haseeb Drabu said today.

The grants from the Centre also increased from Rs 16,728 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 20,598 crore in 2016-17, the minister said in a written reply to the legislative assembly.

Drabu said state's own tax revenue touched Rs 7,819 crore in 2016-17 against Rs 7,326 crore in 2015-16.

Non-tax revenue increased from Rs 3,913 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 4,072 crore in 2016-17, the minister said adding the share of union taxes and duties was Rs 7,814 in 2015-16 which reached Rs 9,489 crore in 2016-17.
 

On the cess and taxes levied on petrol and diesel, Drabu said a tax of Rs 309.63 crore and a cess of Rs 82.49 crore was levied on petrol by the state government in 2015-16 and Rs 355.15 crore and Rs 87.55 crore, respectively,in 2016-17.

The tax of Rs 417.37 crore and a cess of Rs 70.24 crore was levied on diesel in 2015-16, while Rs 479.26 crore and Rs 65.53 crore, respectively, in 2016-17.

He said the money collected at toll posts Lakhanpur, railway station Jammu and Upshi were to the tune of Rs 16.76 crore on petrol and Rs 44.62 crore on diesel in 2015-16 and Rs 19.61 croreand Rs 45.24 crore on diesel in 2016-17.

However, the minister said no cess or taxes are being levied on petrol and diesel by the Centre in the state.

In reply to another question about theexpenditure on road sector under state and centrally sponsored schemes, he said Rs 482.22 crore were spent regular schemes, Rs 122.69 crore under Central Roads Fund scheme and Rs 320.91 crore under Prime Ministers Grameen Sadak Yojna in 2016-17.
