The Jammu and Kashmir government plans to introduce 'HORTNET' portal to bring modernisation in the horticulture sector and facilitate the farmers and growers for meeting their day-to-day needs.

"Jammu and Kashmir will be one of the few states in the country where facilities like 'HORTNET' portal would be introduced and the growers of the state will be the first-hand beneficiaries of this programme," Horticulture Minister Raman Bhalla said.

Every effort is being taken for streamlining, promotion and development of horticulture by the government so that farmers, growers and other people associated with it are benefitted, the Minister said while inaugurating a two-day workshop on the introduction of the portal here yesterday.

The workshop has been organised by the Department of Horticulture in collaboration with Union Ministry of Agriculture.

The Minister said the portal can prove both public as well as official friendly with speedy disposal of various issues relating to the official functioning besides implementation of schemes and programmes.

"Satellite and terminal market system is being launched soon in the state which will be a historic step for the promotion of horticulture industry," he added.
