Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, a frontal organisation of Gujjars and Bakerwals, filed petition against Kashmir University (KU) and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) complaining that both the universities have failed to implement reservation laws for STs in recruitments.

It said that as per law, Gujjars and Bakerwals are entitled for 10 per cent reservation in recruitment and promotions in all the government and autonomous bodies of the state, but KU and BGSBU have not provided even one percent recruitment to these tribes, violating Constitution and UGC guidelines.

"KU during the last 20 years and BGSBU since its establishment have filled up hundreds of posts at various levels, but no reservation was provided to reserve categories especially the STs and the rights of downtrodden communities were suppressed openly," the organisation's secretary, Javaid Rahi told media today.

The organisation alleged that their is negligible representation of ST especially Gujjars and Bakerwals in the both the Universities.

It has also demanded an uniform policy for the recruitment of STs in universities across the state.
