J'khand Assembly condoles death of Jayalalithaa, S S Barnala

Jharkhand Assembly today condoled the deaths of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, former Punjab Chief Minister Surjit Singh Barnala and other notable personalities who passed away recently.

Leading the obituary reference, Speaker Dinesh Oraon also condoled the deaths of former JMM MLA Salkhan Soren, former Madhya Pradesh Governors Bhai Mahavir and Ram Naresh Yadav, former J&K Governor Lt General S K Sinha, former MP Kishori Sinha, noted scientist and former central ministers Prof M G Menon and Jaywanti Ben Mehta, cine star Om Puri, former editor of the Times of India Dilip Padgaonkar, environmentalist Anupam Mishra and economist Soumitra Chatterjee.
 

The Speaker also expressed grief at the deaths caused in the mishaps at Lalmatia mine in Godda, Indore-Patna Express and boat tragedies in West Bengal and Patna and separate terror incidents in which soldiers, including Jharkhand's Sashikant Pandey.

Chief Minister Raghubar Das also expressed his grief at the deaths.

Others who joined the obituary reference were leader of Opposition and JMM member Hemant Soren, Drinking and Sanitation minister Chandraprakash Choudhary, Congress leader Alamgir Alam, Jai Bharat Samanta party MLA Gita Koda, Marxist Coordination Committee MLA Arup Chatterjee, BSP MLA Kushwaha Shiv Pujan Mehta and CPI (ML-Liberation) MLA Raj Kumar Yadav.

The House was adjourned after the members stood in silence in respect of the departed souls.
