A court here today sentenced a man to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a more than a year-old gangrape case of a 15-year-old girl.

The court of District and Sessions Judge Devendra Kumar Pathak pronounced the verdict, sentencing Punam Yadav to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment in the gang-rape case of the girl that was reported from Manatu in Palamau district on March 16, 2017.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.

The convict will have to spend an additional six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

The case of the other accused, Upendra Yadav, is under the consideration of the juvenile board.

As per the FIR registered in connection with the incident, the victim and both the accused were schoolmates.

Punam had raped the victim on multiple occasions after promising to marry her, the FIR said.

When it came to the notice of the victim's family, they filed a case against the two accused at the Manatu police station in June last year.
