A day after a police officer succumbed to injuries in line of duty during the 24-hour statewide bandh on May 14, the Jharkhand government today decided to extend the benefits of compensation underlined for dependents of the victims of Naxalism to personnel discharging normal law and order duty, an official release said here.
Dependants of police personnel, home guards, fire brigade personnel and other government officials and employees would be covered by compensation, insurance, education, housing and other benefits as per the policy if any untoward incident happened to the personnel during their normal course of maintaining law and order, besides combating the Left Wing extremists, it said.
The release said Nawadih Police Station Incharge Ramchandra Ram had suffered serious injuries while maintaining law and order on the eve of Jharkhand bandh on May 14 and subsequently succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

The government would give all benefits to the dependents of the police officer, it said.
According to a senior police officer in Bokaro, Ram suffered chest injury while controlling bandh supporters on May 14. The JMM called the bandh to protest the recently announced domicile policy of the state.
