A jackal was trapped in a cage at the local Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport here today, forest officials said.
The jackal was trapped in one of the cages put up by forest officials near the runway to catch wild animals lurking in the thickets at the airport premises, posing a threat to flights.
"A jackal was trapped today in one of the cages installed near the runaway. Later, it was released in the wild areas of Charol nearby," Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) R N Saxena told PTI.
So far, four wild jackals, a palm civet and two wild cats have been trapped as part of a drive launched to clear the airport of wild animals since last month, he said.
"Movement of jackals and wild animals near the runaway has been a cause of concern since this could cause accidents. Twice or thrice, jackals had come close to aircraft, during the last couple of years," an airport officer said.
However, he said that alertness of pilots had averted accidents in the past.
According to wildlife experts, around 20 jackals have made the thickets around the airport, their home.
