Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarti today said he lodged a verbal complaint with police about four unidentified car-borne youths who tried to intercept him when he was on his way home this evening.

Chakroborty told media that he lodged a verbal complaint with the police that four youths in a sky-colour car tried to intercept his vehicle at Chingrighata More on E M bypass.

The youths followed his car afterwards and Chakroborty's driver managed to elude them after stepping up the gas, following which he then drove straight to the Bidhan Nagar Police Commissionerate and talked to senior officiers present, the VC said.

"I could not identify the four people inside the car but have noted down the number. They tried to stop my car. I have given the number to the police," Chakroborty said.

The VC, who has faced continued agitation in the university by a section of students and JUTA, said he would lodge a formal complaint tomorrow morning.

Police, when contacted, remained tightlipped about the said incident.

After being absent from his office for a month following his gherao by agitating students over the September 17 crackdown at night, Chakraborty joined office on October 17. But the impasse continued with a section of teachers and students threatening to boycott the upcoming convocation of the university this month.
