Press Trust of India Hyderabad
YSR Congress party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy today urged the Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati to intervene in the issue of lift irrigation project proposed by Telangana Government.

Jagan in a letter to Bharati alleged that the Telangana Government has proposed construction of 'Palamuru - Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project' to lift 90 TMC water from river Krishna in foreshore of Srisailam reservoir which would highly be "detrimental to the interest of Rayalaseema, Nellore and Praksam districts".

He also alleged that project does not have any water allocation by any awards granted by the tribunals constituted under the Interstate River Water Disputes Act, 1956.

"The State of Telangana is going ahead with the above cited irrigation project without approaching the concerned authorities, i.E, Krishna River Management Board and the apex council for appraisal and approval of the proposal for the construction of new project, i.E, Palamuru - RangaReddy lift irrigation scheme," he stated.

Jagan also said the project will also destabilise the settled Ayacut (irrigable land) under Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar and Prakasam barrage, thus causing serious ramifications.

"Hence, I request you to kindly intervene in the matter to resolve the issue between Telangana and the residual state of Andhra Pradesh as per the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014," he urged.
