Bihar is all set to be the second biggest beneficiary after West Bengal under the proposed Jagdishpur-Phulpur-Haldia pipeline project among four states through which the gas pipeline will pass through.
Among Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal through which the 2,050-km gas pipeline will pass through, Bihar has walked away with one-third length of pipeline at 205 km main line and 416 km spur line, a GAIL release said today.
In terms of length of the pipeline, Bihar’s share is only second to West Bengal with 385 km mainline and 360 km spur line passing through its territory, the release said.
However, in terms of coverage of of area for gas distribution for domestic and industrial consumption, Bihar has emerged as the biggest beneficiary with its 12 districts set to get piped gas through Jagdishpur-Phulpur-Haldia pipeline project as against 15 districts put together of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal, it said.
The gas pipeline project will pass through Gaya, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur, Patna, Saran, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Begusarai and Siwan district, the release said.
Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced for setting up the Eastern Highway for eastern Ipart of the country at a function in Ranchi on August 21 last.
The GAIL has taken upto itself to fulfil the prime minister’s target by constructing the 2,050 km Jagdishpur- Phulpur-Haldia natural gas pipeline which will serve as the ‘Energy Highway’ to carry efficient and environment-friendly fuel to West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
Besides, city gas distribution to the consumers, the pipeline will supply feedstock/fuel to fertiliser and power plants and major industries located in the region.
The estimated investment for the Jagdishpur-Phulpur-Haldia pipeline project is projected at Rs 10,000 crore.
