A 28-year-old constable attached to prison department and his kin were arrested, for allegedly driving his wife to commit suicide over dowry harassment, police said today.
"Paresh Tukaram Maid, his mother Asha Tukaram Maid (46) and sister Anuja Sachin Sonar (24) allegedly used to harass Hema (20) for dowry of Rs 40,000 towards the purchase of a cupboard, a refrigerator and other appliances," said Assistant Inspector B S Khandale of Thane Nagar police station.
Hema hanged herself with her odhni to the ceiling of the residential quarters of the family On May 23, police said.
The trio were arrested last night on charges of harassment for dowry and culpable homicide not amounting to murder of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint lodged by the victim's father Sharad Lolge.
