Jail inmate commits suicide in Ambala

An undertrial prisoner lodged in Ambala Central Jail here allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope made from a piece of cloth from the window of toilet of jail today, police said.

The deceased was identified as Praveen (36), a resident of Baldev Nagar area, Ambala City, police said.

Praveen was in judicial custody on charge of a criminal offence registered against him recently, police said.

A jail inmate spotted that Praveen was hanging with a window of the toilet, police said.

Praveen was taken to the civil hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said, adding that the body would be handed over to his relatives after the post mortem.

 

The cause behind the incident could not be ascertained so far, police said.

However, on the complaint of jail authorities a case was registered in Baldev Nagar Police station in the regard, police said.

The matter is being investigated, SHO, Baldev Nagar police station Rajneesh Yadav said.
