Jail officials arrested in connection with the death of Byculla jail inmate Manjula Shette today filed an application in the sessions court, seeking copies of the CCTV footage inside the jail.

Advocate Vaibhav Bhagage, their lawyer, said while filing the application that the police charge sheet presented only one side of the story.

Judge Dattatray Satawalekar directed the prosecution to submit its reply. The next hearing will be on October 12.

Mumbai police filed charge sheet against six jail officials in the case last week. The police pressed charges of murder, destruction of evidence, criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation against the accused.

Shette (45), who was serving life sentence, died at the government-run J J Hospital on June 23 after being allegedly beaten up by the jail staff after she failed to account for two eggs and five loaves of bread that she was supposed to distribute to other inmates.

Officials Manisha Pokharkar (jailer), Wasima Sheikh, Sheetal Shegokar, Bindu Naikode, Surekha Gulwe and Aarti Shingne were arrested in the case.
