Jail inmates celebrate Intl Yoga Day in Thane

In tandem with celebrations across the country, nearly 700 prisoners of Thane Central Jail took part in a programme to mark the second International Yoga Day today.

The function, jointly organised by Yerwada Central Jail and Patanjali Yoga Samiti, was attended by Inspector General (Prison) B K Upadyaya and Jail Superintendent Hiralal Jadhav.

Apart from inmates and senior officials, jail staffers also performed yoga.

In Thane city, Mayor Sanjay More and district Collector Mahendra Kalyankar participated in a function held at Dadoji Konddev stadium early this morning.

At Thane Mental hospital, around 100 patients along with the staffers and Superintendent Dr Rajendra Shirsat performed 'asanas'.
 

Some of the patients narrated their experiences of performing yoga and attaining benefits from it.
