Jail medical officer, another person held for accepting bribe

A medical officer with the Aadhar Wadi Jail at Kalyan and another person were today arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe from a complainant, ACB officials said.

The complainant's relative was lodged at the Aadhar Wadi jail in a crime. He wanted him to be shifted to the Ulhasnagar central hospital for which he needed a clearance from the jail medical officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Thane ACB Sanjay Mohite said.

When approached the medical officer made a demand of Rs 5,000 for giving the clearance letter, following which he lodged a complaint with the ACB, an official release said.
 

A trap was laid this morning and 28-year-old Nilesh Pagare was caught while taking the bribe on behalf of the medical officer Dr Sandeep Shinde, it added.

The duo were arrested and a case under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 has been registered and investigations are underway, police said.
