An undertrial prisoner allegedly shot dead another prisoner today inside the Indore central jail in Madhya Pradesh, causing a flutter among prison officials.

Taking the matter seriously, Madhya Pradesh Director General (Jails), Surendra Singh suspended five employees, including two officials.

Prisoner Jitendra Thakur alias Jeetu (27) allegedly shot dead another prisoner Arjun Tyagi (35), probably to avenge the killing of a person, Additional Director General (Jails), C V Muniraju who arrived here to probe the sensational incident told PTI.

Both Jeetu and Tyagi were in jail due to involvement in separate murder cases.Tyagi was behind bars for the murder of one Jitendra Awasthi's father.

As per initial investigations, it appears that Awasthi might have persuaded Jeetu to kill Tyagi to avenge his father's killing, when the Tyagi was taken to court for hearings, Muniraju said.

Allegedly, it appears that Awasthi wrapped a mobile phone in a plastic bag used to collect garbage and threw it inside the prison from a bridge passing from near the jail wall. Later, in a similar fashion, Awasthi is also believed to have supplied a .32 bore revolver and five cartridges to Jeetu, Muniraju said, adding that it was possible for Awasthi to do so because the bridge is quite close to the jail's boundary wall.

Today morning Jeetu went from Barrack Number 1 to Barrack Number 4 and shot Tyagi dead at close range, Muniraju said.

While four bullets hit Tyagi in his stomach and head, the last one missed him. Tyagi was immediately rushed to the M Y Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

After the sensational incident, jail authorities carried out a thorough search and took Jeetu into custody.

Meanwhile, after an initial probe, the Director General (Jails) suspended Deputy Superintendent Sujit Khare, Assistant Superintendent Ramesh Maravi, Head Warden Pandurang Jamle, as well as two other wardens.
