Family members of three youths accused in a murder case have alleged that jail officials at the prison where the trio is being held in judicial custody extorted money from them after making threats against their sons.

At a press conference here, the family members of the trio alleged that the Neemka Jail Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent extorted Rs 26 lakh and two flats from them through a middle man.

The family members of the three accused said that when they spoke to the youths - identified as Shiv, Deepak and Mukesh - they told them that the jail authorities were abusing them and demanding money.

To save their sons from torture at the jail, the family members of the trio started sending money for the jail officials through the middleman.

Harish Kumar, father of Shiv, claimed that he sent about Rs 14 lakh while Deepak's father Kishori said he had given Rs 12 lakh. Bansilal, Mukesh's father, said he had transferred two flats owned by him in the name of the alleged middleman's wife.

However, the jail officials in question rejected the charges while offering to face any inquiry into the matter.
