Jail term for 2 Oriential Insurance employees

A CBI court in Madurai today sentenced two employees of Oriental Insurance Company to two years of rigorous imprisonment in a case of misapparopriation of funds.

Special Judge M Krishnan held Assistant-cum-cashier Kaleelul Rehman and sub-staff John Christopher guilty of misappropriation of Rs 1.61 lakh by abusing their official positions.

Development officer Robert Vincent, the third accused in the case, was acquitted in the case filed by Anti Corruption Branch of CBI, Chennai, a CBI release said.

According to the prosecution, the three accused caused falsification of entries in the company books by showing cash payments of the premium made by customers as cheque payments and made 'fictitious' cheque detail entries to 'cover up the misappropriation.'
 

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 28,000 each on the two convicts.
