Jain Irrigation, TERI sign pact on water resource centre

Jain Irrigation and TERI today signed an agreement to establish a resource centre with a focus on efficient use of water in agriculture.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by R K Pachauri, Director-General of the Energy and Resources Institute, and Anil Jain, Managing Director of Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd, the company said in a statement.

The resource centre will engage all stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, farmers and other research institutes.

It will focus on research activities on the efficient use of water in agriculture, innovative and efficient water-use technologies, water conservation and watershed management, and best agricultural practices, according to the statement.
 

The centre is proposed to be set up at two locations -- one at TERI in Delhi and the other at the corporate office of Jain Irrigation in Jalgaon.

Jain Irrigation manufactures micro irrigation systems, PVC pipes, HDPE pipes, plastic sheets, agro processed products, renewable energy solutions and other agricultural inputs. It has plants in 28 locations across the globe.

TERI is a research institute that focuses on energy and the efficient use of natural resources for sustainable development.
