Sarkhej Roza is an elegant historical monument located in Makarba village here that blends medieval Islamic, Hindu and Jain architecture.

The Jaipur Kawa Brass Band is a showcase of North Indian gypsy heritage, featuring seven Indian brass musicians.

This will be followed by a performance by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's nephews Rizwan and Muazzam Ali Khan, festival organiser and Craft of Art founder Birwa Qureshi said today.

Contemporary dancer Astad Deboo will open the Water Festival at the Adalaj-ni-vav (Adalaj tubewell) on November 25 followed by performances from tabla maestro Ustad Fazal Qureshi, son of the late tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha and other artistes.

Addressing reporters here, Birwa Qureshi, wife of Ustad Fazal Qureshi, said that "The music festival helps us engage with citizens to the history of these monuments, its culture, tradition, craft, art, architecture and lifestyle by presenting these monuments. The Sufi Festival will be hosted at the Great Tank in the Sarkhej Roza, a nationally protected monument".

She said that a major purpose behind the festival is to connect the local populace who don't know about the monument and help them understand the heritage.

"Only when a local person attends the festival will he understand the monument and the need to preserve it," she said.

Sarkhej Roza Committee chairman A I Saiyed said that "Earlier, nobody knew about such monuments. But, when people started attending the music festival that began two years back, they became more aware about such heritage monuments."
