Jaisinghani ousts Patwardhan to reach semis

Raghav Jaisinghani continued to outclass higher-ranked opponents as he reached the semifinals of the under-16 boys singles in the 7th Ramesh Desai Memorial All India Ranking tennis tournament, here today.

The MP boy, seeded 16th, ousted sixth seed Indra Patwardhan of Maharashtra, who is nationally ranked 11, in three sets to move into a semi final clash against Delhi's No.4 seed Alex Solanki tomorrow.

Jaisinghani, nationally ranked 24, had knocked out top seed B R Nikshep in three sets yesterday in the third round.

The other semifinal pits No.3 Paramveer Singh Bajwa of Punjab against No.7 Gokul Suresh of Tamil Nadu.
 

Suresh shocked No.2 seed Dhruv Pal of Uttaranchal in three sets after losing the opening set while Bajwa got past eighth seed Vinod Vashisht who retired when trailing 0-2 in the second set.

In the corresponding girls singles, top seed Akshara Iska of AP, No.3 Karman Kaur of Delhi, No.4 Himani Mor of Haryana and No.13 Nandini Sharma of Chandigarh entered the last four.

Girls under 16 singles: Akshara Iska (AP) bt Jennifer Luikham (HR) 6-2, 6-1; Himani Mor (HR) bt Zeel Desai (GJ) 6-1, 7-6(1); Nandini Sharma (CH) bt Mihika Yadav (MH) 3-6, 6-0, 7-5.
