Jaitley, Ambika, Preneet file nominations

BJP leader Arun Jaitley, Union minister Preneet Kaur, former Union minister Ambika Soni and SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal were among the 150 candidates who filed their nomination papers today for the 13 Lok Sabha seats of Punjab, which is going to polls on April 30.

On the penultimate day of filing of nominations in Punjab, 150 nominations were filed and with these the total number of nominations touches 236, an election office spokesman said here.

The last day for filing of nomination papers is April 9 as there will be no official work tomorrow due to Ram Naumi, public holiday.
 

"Prominent among those who filed their nominations included Jaitley, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Preneet Kaur, Ambika Soni, Ranjit Singh Brahmpura (SAD), Manpreet Singh Ayali (SAD), Ravneet Singh Bittu (Cong), Mohinder Singh Kaypee (Cong), Prem Singh Chandumajra (SAD) and Bhagwant Mann (AAP)," said Additional CEO, Supreet Singh Gulati.

Meanwhile, Additional CEO B Purushartha said that after the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct a total 104 kg heroin has been seized worth Rs 500 crore.

He said that 1,28,374 litre illicit liquor and 2,13,445 litre country made have also been seized by the excise department.

About 1.92 crore voters, including 90 lakh women, would cast their votes at 21,957 polling stations, including 15,463 in rural areas, from 7 AM to 6 PM on April 30.

Five constituencies of Gursdapur, Amritsar, Bathinda, Ferozepur and Patiala have been classified as "expenditure sensitive" constituencies.

The other eight constituencies which will go to the polls are Khadoor Sahab, Jalandhar SC, Fatehgarh Sahab, Hoshiarpur SC, Anandpur Sahab, Ludhiana, Sangrur and Faridkot.

Of the 13 Lok Sabha seats, at present Congress has eight MPs, SAD four and its alliance partner BJP one.
