Left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati bagged 4/41 after a fine effort with the bat to help Goa beat Chhattisgarh by eight wickets in the Ranji Trophy group C cricket fixture at Barabati Stadium today.

Having scored a stellar 92 at number eight to hand them a first innings lead, Jakati did the damage with the ball along with fellow left-arm spinner Darshan Misal, who returned career-best figures of 3/24 to lead the rout.

Seven of Chhattisgarh batsmen got out for ducks as their second essay folded for 162 in 67.3 overs to set a paltry 91-run target.

Promoted as opener after his patient 97, Samar Dubhashi steered the chase with an unbeaten 41 from 61 balls (8x4) as Goa coasted to 94/2 in 21.4 overs to secure their first win of the season and jump to sixth place with 10 points from five outings.

Resuming on 95/2, Chhattisgarh lost Mohammad Kaif without any addition to the total in the fifth ball of the morning when the skipper edged one behind the stumps to become the second victim of Rituraj Singh (2/38).

Opener Sahil Gupta waged a lone battle with a watchful 82 from 201 balls (13x4) and had a 53-run partnership with Ashutosh Singh (23) but Jakati triggered the collapse before Misal joined in.

The spin duo snared seven wickets between them as Chhattisgarh lost seven wickets for 14 runs to be dismissed before lunch break.

Chasing 91, Goa had a jittery start losing Sumiran Amonkar (0) for eight, but Dubhashi showed fine application on a turning pitch while skipper Shagun Kamat (34) lent a fine support to script an easy win with a session to spare.

Brief Scores:

Chhattisgarh 198 and 162; 67.3 overs (Sahil Gupta 82; Shadab Jakati 4/41).

Goa 270 and 94/2; 21.4 overs (Samar Dubhashi 41 not out). Goa won by eight wickets.

Points Goa 6, Chhattisgarh 0.
