Two persons, including a participant, were gored to death and at least 56 others injured during a jallikattu event at Thiruvappur in the district here today, police said.
The other deceased was a spectator, they added.
Some of the injured were treated by a mobile medical team, while the others were treated as outpatients in a hospital and discharged.

It is being held at various places in the state after the Tamil Nadu Assembly, on January 23, unanimously passed an amendment bill, clearing the path for the bull-taming sport to be conducted without any hindrance.
Usually, jallikattu is held as part of the Pongal festivities. However, it could not be held during Pongal this year due to a Supreme Court ban.
