Jamaican police are appealing for calm in a troubled section of the capital after gunmen shot a dozen people, killing a 12-year-old boy and a man.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force is blaming an upsurge of violence in West Kingston's Denham Town on a new crop of gangsters fighting for control of the gang-steeped area.

The late Friday shooting killed 12-year-old Kawayne McAnuff, a man and wounded 10 other people. It's being blamed on a gang called New Generation.

Police today identified four men and one woman whom they say should turn themselves in. They're asking residents to remain calm and stressed police activities are ongoing.

Denham Town is next to the Tivoli Gardens area where gang kingpin Christopher "Dudus" Coke oversaw his stronghold before his 2010 capture.
