The 34-year-old actor, who has dabbled in everything from teaching to moviemaking, has penned a collection of lyrical verses called 'Directing Herbert White', reported the New York Times.
The piece will be about his work on adapting Frank Bidart's poem Herbert White into a short film.
"(It will be) about my relationship to that poem, Frank's relationship to the poem as I have learned about it from knowing Frank and the adaptation process," Franco said.
The multi-talented actor, who has previously played authors Allen Ginsberg and Hart Crane on the big screen, certainly has the credentials for the project.
He holds a master of fine arts in poetry from North Carolina's Warren Wilson College. The book is due to be released in April 2014.
