Actor Jamie Foxx is expected to join Quvenzhane Wallis in the comic strip-adapted film 'Annie', which is produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith.

Foxx may require to sing as well as act in his next project, Sony's adaptation of Harold Gray's comic strip 'Little Orphan Annie'.

'Little Orphan Annie', which was debuted in 1924 in the New York Daily News, tells the story of a little girl who, after escaping from an orphanage, is taken in by the rich Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks.

If the deals are sealed, Foxx will play Benjamin Stacks, a variation of the Daddy Warbucks personage. Wallis, meanwhile, is cast as the titular character, reported Aceshowbiz.

"Annie" will be co-produced by Will Smith through Overbrook Entertainment and by Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter through Marcy Media.

"Friends with Benefits" helmer Will Gluck not only serves behind the lens, but also revises the film's screenplay, which was initially written by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna.

Set in the modern era, "Annie" is expected to make its way out onto US theaters on December 25, 2014.
