Actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler will be honoured with the Medal of Hope Award at next year's Race to Erase MS Gala.

The Sopranos star, 35, went public with her struggle with multiple sclerosis in January, revealing she had been secretly battling the autoimmune disease since she was 20.

She has been working to raise awareness about the illness and funds for research ever since, and now her efforts have been recognised by officials behind the annual charity event, reported People.

"I admire Jamie-Lynn's bravery for publicly sharing her journey with MS and in doing so she helped inspire others with this disease to take charge of their health," said Race to Erase MS founder Nancy Davis.

"She has ignited a new awareness for multiple sclerosis worldwide and has been working diligently to find a cure in our lifetime."

Sigler will be presented with the prize at the 24th Annual Race to Erase MS Gala at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on May 5 next year.
