Jammu: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) is seeking exemption of Dearness Allowance from the ambit of income tax as DA is directly linked with the price index.
"The price escalation is directly linked with the DA of the salaried class and pensioners but it was strange that the income tax is also imposed on the increase of the salaries because of the DA," NMC president Subash Shastri said here today.
 
"There is no justification of imposing income tax on DA," Shastri said while addressing a rally of NMC workers. ==================

Jammu: In the backdrop of the twin blasts in Hyderabad, the police in Jammu and Kashmir today said they were ready for any eventuality and have kept the security as tight as possible.
"On our level we try to keep the security as tight as possible," IGP, Jammu Zone, Dilbag Singh told to reporters here.

Srinagar: A group of Kashmiri youth today held a candle light protest here appealing the Centre to allow the family of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was executed in Tihar jail recently, conduct his last rites as per their customs.
"We appeal to the government of India to allow the family of Afzal Guru to conduct his last rites as per their customs and wishes," chairman of the group, Global Youth Foundation, Touseef Raina told reporters near the Press Enclave here.
