Ayurvedic doctors of Jammu region today held a demonstration seeking absorption in government hospitals and alleged the state government was not implementing Centre-sponsored health programmes to promote ayurvedic treatment in Jammu and Kashmir.

The doctors with Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree were protesting under the banner of Unemployed Ayurvedic BAMS Doctors Association.

Ayurvedic doctors of Jammu region were not being absorbed under the Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) scheme of the Union Health Ministry, said association chairman Shri Kant.

Association president Sahil Pandoh said, "The performance of directorates of ISM and NRHM are negligible in the state, leading to the delay in employment of ayurvedic doctors."

They demanded immediate publication of advertisement for recruitment to the posts of ISM Ayurvda doctors.

They urged Chief Minister Omar Abdulla and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to take initiative to constitute separate directorate for Ayurveda and Unani doctors.

The association urged the Chief Minister to pay stipend to BAMS doctors during internship and till they get jobs.
