The Congress today held a protest demonstration in the city alleging that BJP president Amit Shah's son Jay Shah has accumulated "huge wealth" thanks to "undue favour" granted by the NDA government at the Centre.

They raised slogans against the BJP and demanded Amit Shah step down immediately.

They also protested against separatist Asiya Andrabi being shown as a 'role model' in the government campaign for "Beti-Bachao Beti Padhao" in Kashmir.

Led by J&K Congress vice president Raman Bhalla, a large number of party leaders and workers took out a march from Congress headquarters at the Shahidi Chowk, carrying placards and raising slogans against the state and centre over their "failures" on various fronts.

As the protesters reached the Raghunath Mandir Chowk, police laid barricades and prevented them from proceeding towards the City Chowk.

The Congress leaders held a dharna at the site and also burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bhalla said allegations against Jay Shah are based on facts and need to be investigated by an independent agency.

Congress leader Ravinder Sharma in his address said that people want to know the truth about these allegations and demanded the prime minister immediately seek the resignation of Amit Shah as BJP president.
