Over a dozen trains were halted at different places of East Central Railway (ECR) zone today during agitation by Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) of Madhepura MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav to protest demonetisation.

Yadav's party had called for a state-wide 'Rail Roko' stir "to vent the anger of common people" on account of Union government's decision of scrapping of 1000 and 500 rupee notes.

The JAP chief, who led the party workers stop train services at Rajendra Nagar Terminal in Patna, told PTI that the agitation was to protest harassment to masses on account of demonetisation which had not yielded any result against black money.

Through the stir the party also demanded a hit on benami property for more effective fight against black money.

"The only gain coming from demonetisation was that the poor deposited their money in banks and are struggling to withdraw them for meeting daily needs," the Madhepura MP said.

"It is only a conspiracy to benefit a handful of capitalists and convert black money to white," he claimed, attacking the NDA government's decision of invalidating high value currencies.

He demanded registration of FIR against people responsible for death of nearly a hundred people while standing outside banks and ATMs and due to shock on account of demonetisation.
