Japan's Ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu visits Super 30

Japan's Ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu today visited the Super 30 coaching institute and was all praise for the facility and its founder Anand Kumar for his efforts to help students from poor families reach Indian Institute of Technology.

Hiramatsu, who was accompanied by his wife and some officials, interacted with Super 30 founder and mathematician Anand Kumar apart from its students.

"In Japan, Super 30 is quite popular and I am really impressed to see the kind of work Kumar is doing to help students from poor families reach IIT," the Ambassador said adding he was here to see as to how the coaching institute was run and achieved phenomenal success.
 

Super 30 is a free-of-cost residential programme for students from underprivileged sections of the society. Since its inception in 2002, the institution has made extraordinary results in JEE exam and the feat was appreciated around the world.

The Ambassador said Japan also had a programme to help talented students from poor families to get the best of technical education in Japan and scholarships were also available for that.

He said the University of Tokyo has already invited students from Super 30 for higher technical education, he said.

Kumar thanked the Ambassador and said his visit would further boost his morale.

"I have been to Japan on invitation from the University of Tokyo and I have seen Japan's development. Two students from Super 30 are already studying there and more will join in the coming years. Five students will go in a couple of months on a short trip," he added.
